The VTMIS directive 2002/59/EC obliges every EU member state to send voyage information to the SafeSeaNet system containing valid UN/Locodes. Next to this, every SafeSeaNet National Competent Authority is responsible to make missing UN/Locode’s according to the UN procedures and the EMSA procedures. EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) looks after the correct usage of UN/Locodes’s in the SafeSeaNet system. This is documented in the “SSN Locode guidelines”.
Hereafter are the different list of Locodes that are being used in SafeSeaNet:
UNECE Locodes
UNECE provides the list of UN/Locodes. After update this list in the SafeSeaNet system by EMSA, all EU Member states use the updated list.
